Rep. Scott Peters Thanks Voters, Volunteers

November 10, 2016

Today, Rep. Scott Peters released the following statement after being elected to a third term in Congress:

“I am so grateful to my constituents for this overwhelming show of support, and for giving me the honor of returning to serve them for a third term in Congress.

“I want to thank the hundreds of students and volunteers who took time out of their busy lives to speak to voters and support our campaign over the past few months. It inspires me to see so many young people involved in this election because this is about them and the country that we are leaving to their generation.

“I also want to thank my staff – both campaign and government – for their hard work on behalf of San Diego and their dedication to service.

“I ran for Congress in 2012 to fix a broken institution. San Diegans didn’t want a representative who would be part of some partisan army, but a problem solver who would fight for their security and prosperity and reach across the aisle to get things done.

“One thing that Denise Gitsham and I agreed on from the beginning is that this race should be about my record – what I have gotten done and whether I have lived up to my promises to be a bipartisan problem solver. On Tuesday, the voters affirmed that I have kept my promises and earned another term.

“Like most Americans, I did not expect the Presidential race to turn out the way it did. My approach to Congress has always been to work with everyone to get things done, and as much as that is possible in the next two years, I will continue to do so. But I will always stand up for what’s right. If Donald Trump wants to work on infrastructure investment and fixing our tax code to incentivize prosperity for the middle class, I will engage energetically, but if Donald Trump tries to put his hateful, reckless rhetoric into action, San Diegans can be sure that I am going to fight like hell to stop him. I will fight every day for the next two years to preserve the future that our children deserve.”
