Rep. Peters, New Democrat Coalition Unveil Agenda to Promote Innovation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) and his colleagues from the New Democrat Coalition released a comprehensive set of principles for the America COMPETES Act. The act, first passed in 2007, bolsters public-private partnerships with leading research universities and assists innovators nationwide. Congressman Peters and the New Democrat Coalition have consistently supported efforts to promote innovation, education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and end and reverse cuts to basic scientific research.
“If our country is going to be competitive into the future we must do a better job of supporting scientific research and innovation, while providing a long-term budget vision that allows institutions the chance to plan for the future. Further, we must recommit ourselves to encouraging STEM education programs that prepare the next generation for the global economy they will face.
