Congressman Peters’ Statement on Democratic and Republican Budget Proposals this Week

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement on Democratic and Republican Budget Proposals this Week:

“Yesterday and today, the House of Representatives acted on six different budget proposals. Some were generated by Democrats and some were generated by Republicans. While they will become the basis of future “gotcha” political commercials, none of these proposals has a chance of becoming law. Nobody thought they would.  I and many of my colleagues didn’t vote for any of them.

We owe it to our constituents and to the country to sit down as a team of Americans, not partisans, and craft a budget that – simultaneously – cuts wasteful spending, tackles our long-term debt, preserves a safety net, reforms the tax code to encourage competitiveness abroad and job creation at home, supports a strong military and makes the investments in infrastructure, education and basic scientific research that will support our country and our children into the next century.

That budget will gain my support, and I will continue to work every day to find solutions in the common ground.”
