Today, the Scott Peters for Congress campaign is honored to announce that Barack Obama has endorsed Rep. Peters for re-election. Obama’s announcement comes as San Diego, and the country, turn their attentions toward Election Day in November.
"I know Scott Peters and the people of his district could not have a better representative in the U.S. Congress fighting for their security, prosperity, and economic opportunity," said Barack Obama in a statement. "Scott Peters is the real deal - a thoughtful, independent, hard-working leader who delivers for San Diego," he said.
"President Obama and I have shared values and priorities for our country: a tough, smart national security strategy; access to affordable, quality college education; closing gun background check loopholes; building an economy that leaves no one behind; and equality for all," said Peters. "It's been a tremendous honor to work with this President and I'm truly grateful for his support."
Peters added that the President, too, has delivered for San Diego when Peters has asked for his help. Two examples Peters cited are recent steps taken by the administration to fix the disparity in the federal homeless funding formula that shortchanges San Diego, and attention to the need for a better approach to preventing and fighting wildfires - the natural disasters of the west.
Congressman Scott Peters represents California's 52nd Congressional District, which encompasses the cities of Poway, Coronado and most of San Diego. He is in his second-term in Congress and currently serves on the House Armed Services and Judiciary Committees. Scott was three times chosen "Elected official of the Year" by BIOCOM for his work to create San Diego's biotech jobs of the future, and was recently named one of the most independent members of Congress by Congressional Quarterly. Peters, a Democrat, is backed by organizations from across the political spectrum, including teachers, police officers, nurses, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. Today, he proudly adds to this list, Barack Obama.
