Dozens of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders showed their support for Rep. Scott Peters on Saturday at an event hosted by Pangea Bakery Café on Convoy Street.

Speakers at the “Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for Scott” event included State Controller John Chiang; City Council President Todd Gloria; community leaders Lani Lutar and Dr. Allen Chan; Ping Wang, owner of Pangea and Ansir Innovation Center; and Bennett Peji, president of the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of San Diego.

Peters has also earned support from Dr. Aurora Cudal, Dr. Alan Gin, Margaret Iwanaga-Penrose, Judy Ki, Eric Le, Dr. Mitsuo Tomita, Yen Tu, Paul Valen, Sid Voorakkara and Sally Wong-Avery, among other prominent AAPI leaders.

All of the speakers at Saturday’s event talked about Peters’ support for small businesses, educational and research investment, immigration reform and other issues that are important to the AAPI community. All stressed the importance of voting in the November election. Peji noted Peters’ numerous efforts on behalf of small businesses, including co-sponsoring the Make Every Small Business Count Act and the Small Business Investment Act.

“I’ve been a seasoned entrepreneur for over 27 years so I understand full well the potential unleashed when you provide small and medium-sized businesses the opportunity to grow and thrive,” Peji said. “What we have demonstrated as a community in our capacity as business owners and entrepreneurs — to provide value and make a difference — we must now demonstrate that in voting, especially in this coming (CA-52) congressional election.”

In this clip from KUSI, Controller Chiang said Peters has been a reliable voice for San Diego’s diverse growing and diverse population.

“Scott wants to bring those sensibilities and make sure Washington, D.C. has policies that support San Diego families,” Chiang told KUSI.
