National Education Association Backs Peters for Congress

San Diego, CA – The Scott Peters for Congress campaign announced today that the National Education Association (NEA) has endorsed Peters in the race for the new 52nd Congressional District. The NEA is comprised of 3.2 million teachers, school counselors, and other education professionals from pre-school through post graduate levels. It is the largest professional organization in the country.

The association picked Peters upon the recommendation of the California Teachers Association (CTA). He was endorsed based on his positions regarding public education and on a stringent interview process.

“The importance of a strong public school system at all levels cannot be overstated,” Peters said. “I was able to go to a good college because I had a good public education and the support of federal financial aid. I'm running for Congress to make sure every kid has the same opportunities I had," he added.

"I will always put our nation's educational system first, and I'm very proud to have the support of this national organization of men and women who work tirelessly to teach our students and run our public schools,” he said.

Their endorsement is the latest in an array of impressive endorsements Peters has earned in this race, including the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council; the Chicano Democratic Assocation; San Diego Democrats for Equality; the San Diego County Young Democrats; and San Diego’s most high-profile Democratic elected officials.
