What a way to kick off the New Year! Yesterday we earned another important endorsement and I wanted you to be among the first to know. I am very proud to announce that the Honorable Dede Alpert has endorsed my candidacy for Congress.
As you know, Dede has been a dedicated public servant to San Diego for many, many years and I am honored to have her support and call her a friend.
Dede had a long career as an elected representative in the San Diego region, beginning in 1983 when she was elected to the Solana Beach School Board. In 1990, she was elected to the California State Assembly, and in 1996, to the California State Senate. During her 14 years of legislative service she was best known for championing laws that improved public education and protected victims of domestic abuse.
When people ask me who I look to as a mentor or model for how elected officials should work, I tell them I learned from Dede Alpert. She is practical and sensible and was always willing to listen to all sides in order to forge compromise and make progress.
This is the style of leadership I will bring to Washington with your continued support.

I hope you had a wonderful New Years – onward!
