The California Teachers Association has endorsed Democrat Scott Peters in his bid to unseat GOP Rep. Brian Bilbray in the new 52nd Congressional District.

The association represents 325,000 teachers, counselors, school librarians, social workers, psychologists, and nurses who work in K-12 school systems.

Peters got the endorsement after he and Democrat Lori Saldana completed an association questionnaire and interview.

"I have a track record of standing up for what's right, for working people, for kids and families," Peters said in a statement issued by his campaign.

The association membership includes community college faculty, state university faculty and education support professionals.

Peters has also been endorsed by the San Diego/Imperial Counties Labor Council.
